Eunomad attending the Global Forum on Migration and Development

Eunomad will participate in the Civil Society Days 29 and 30 November 2011

logo-gfmdOn the 1st and 2nd December 2011 will be held the fifth edition of the Final Debate of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) in Geneva, Switzerland. The objective of the Global Forum is to promote the exchange of expertise on international migration and its links with development. It brings together States, UN observers and international and regional organizations.

This year the theme of the final debate will be: "Taking Action on Migration and Development - Coherence, Capacity and Cooperation" For the first time instead of the traditional Round-Tables the findings of the Regional Thematic Meetings will be discussed around the following three thematic clusters:

I) Labour Mobility and Development

II) Addressing Irregular Migration through Coherent Migration and Development Strategies

III) Tools for Evidence-based Migration and Development Policies

As with the first four editions, the GFMD 2011 will be preceded by the Civil Society Days (CSD) to be held on 29th and 30th November in Switzerland as well. These CDS enable various organizations of civil society to consult and discuss concrete recommendations and proposals for submission to the States during the Final Debate. This year the theme of Civil Society Days will be: "Action on Labour Migration, Development and Protection of Migrant Workers and their Families."

Eunomad will be present at the CSD. It will be a great opportunity for the network to strengthen the relationships with other civil society organizations such as ADPC (The African Diaspora Policy Centre), a research centre based in the Netherlands which aims at mobilising the African diaspora in Europe to contribute to the development of the African continent. Contacts have already been established and may continue for the Global Forum on Migration and Development.
